Guardiola: Foden display 'another level'

Remember the name.

That was the message from boss Pep Guardiola after a superb derby display from Stockport youngster Phil Foden in the 2-0 defeat to United.

Such was the level of his performance, Guardiola suggested the 17-year-old could now stay with the first team squad all season.

Who is Phil Foden?

When asked about the midfielder Guardiola said: “I don’t have words - I would like to have the right words to describe what I saw.

“You (the media, fans) are the lucky guys who saw the first game, for the first team for Manchester City, of this guy.

“It’s a long time since I saw something like this. His performance was another level. He’s 17-years-old, he’s a City player, he grew up in the academy, he loves the club, he’s a City fan and for us he’s a gift.

“He will stay with us training with us in the pre-season and maybe he’ll stay with us in season because he’s special."

Guardiola felt there were positives to take from the game overall despite the result.

He added: "It's our first game, good training, one team is already a step forward in progression, already played two games before that one. It was a physical test, we saw many good things, they are dangerous in attack.

"We played quite well, especially in the second half and some minutes of the first half too, some individual performances were really good. So now rest, then Real Madrid."
